Kota Kinabalu: The so-called “Sulu arbitration” violates public international law and is a legal impossibility.
This opinion was expressed by senior lawyer Dato’ Firoz Hussein bin Ahmad Jamaluddin of Messrs. Firoz Julian at the International Arbitration Colloquium 2023 event held at the Sabah International Convention Centre, recently.
“It is not possible for public international law concepts of territorial sovereignty to be legally addressed between a State and non-State actors (defunct Sulu sultanate claimants).
He was the only physical speaker at the Session 2 of the event, entitled – “The Sulu Case: Time to Preserve Sovereign Immunity?” which was moderated by Sabah Law Society President Roger Chin Ken Fong.
