Atalanta GM Umberto Marino has welcomed the emergence of the Saudi Pro League.
Marino sees the mega spending of SPL clubs as a new "opportunity" for football.
He said: "I see it as a huge opportunity for the general football system and to bring new resources to Europe.
"What Saudi Arabia is doing is a bit like what the Premier League was doing until a few months ago, now they too are suffering this excessive economic power and try to limit the damage by asking for the market to close early.
"The same questions we asked, through the Lega Serie A, to reduce the market period and close it before the start of the championship together with the other 4 main leagues."
