THE Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI) in Region 4A (Calabarzon) is gearing up to revolutionize local farming and fishing practices with its 2026 training program.

Rolando Maningas, ATI Calabarzon center head, said the initiative aims to modernize the agri-fishery sector by incorporating cutting-edge technologies, innovations, and skills-based training.

"We will solidify our efforts to modernize and mechanize the agri-fishery sector by reinforcing technologies, innovations, quality extension services, inclusivity, and skills-based training that respond to the evolving needs of our farmers and fishers," Maningas said.

He said that the training program will focus on key areas such as good agricultural practices, farm mechanization, climate-resilient agriculture, smart farming, and integrated nutrient and pest management.

“Moreover, the initiative will also explore opportunities in agribusiness, providing technologies along the agricultural value chain, including post-harvest technologies, processing, and marketing,” Maningas said.

He also mentioned key programs and initiatives of the ATI Calabarzon’s 2026 training program, which will prioritize key programs.

These are rice and corn production to enhance productivity and sustainability through modern farming techniques; livestock development to improve animal husbandry practices and promote livestock entrepreneurship; and the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan to empower coconut farmers through training and market access.

Other key programs include the High Value Crops Development Program to promote high-value crops and improve market competitiveness; the Organic Agriculture to foster sustainable farming practices and promote organic products; and the National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program to support urban agriculture initiatives and promote food security.

In 2025, the ATI Calabarzon trained over 4,783 farmers, 1,209 agricultural extension workers, 555 DA staff, and 537 students and agri-enthusiasts, equipping them with essential skills in agriculture.

As the training hub for farmers, fisherfolk, and agriculture enthusiasts, ATI Calabarzon said it is committed to creating a resilient agriculture sector through modern technology and sustainable farming practices.
