ASIAN Terminals Inc. (ATI) and DP World have commissioned six hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes at Manila South Harbor (MSH), increasing terminal handling capacity to two million TEUs while advancing operations.
Built by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. (ZPMC), the hybrid units cut fuel consumption and emissions.
Equipped with automatic gantry steering, anti-sway technology, truck detection, chassis positioning, and emergency stop systems, the six-high stacking cranes grow MSH’s RTG fleet to 29 units to improve yard fluidity and truck turnaround times.
The delivery follows wider terminal modernization. With an extended Pier 3 and two new quay cranes opened in early 2025, alongside landside and digital upgrades, MSH’s annual capacity has grown nearly 40 percent from 1.45 million TEUs in 2021 to 2.0 million TEUs in 2025. The RTGs are also designed for future conversion to fully electric power.
The cranes support MSH’s transition to lower-emission equipment, following last year’s rollout of 15 electric Internal Transfer Vehicles (eITVs) and fast-charging stations. By end-2026, ATI and DP World plan to add 15 more eITVs, three electric empty container handlers, and two electric reach stackers.

The MSH expansion forms part of ATI and DP World’s wider investment strategy across Manila, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and South Cotabato to build resilient trade infrastructure for the Philippine economy.
