Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone was delighted after their victory over Real Mallorca last night.
Atletico marked their 120th anniversary on Wednesday with their 3-1 win.
Simeone later said, "Mallorca is a team that knows how to play and does it very well.
"At half-time we spoke to each other saying it was up to us. (Alvaro) Morata's great goal got us back on track. For me, given how far we started, getting back on my feet in this way fills me with pride. It seems easy, but it's not.
"We grew up a lot in the defensive phase and this gives us life."
Simeone then joked about the fight with Real Madrid for second place: "If you can't finish first, the best thing that can happen to you is to finish second. We were taught this as kids and I believe it. I aim to always go higher than I can."
