Atletico Madrid are appealing against the red card handed to Angel Correa during their 1-1 draw at Real Madrid.
Referee Jess Gil Manzano sent off Correa with 64 minutes on the clock in Saturday's derby at the Bernabu. The Argentinean was ordered off for, Hitting an opponent with his elbow (Rdiger) when the ball was not in play" according to the referee's post-match report. Gil Manzano was close to move, and saw it first-hand - did not hesitate to show the Atleti player a direct red card.
Correa contested the decision with the ref before making his way off the pitch. The Competitions Committee are due to meet on Wednesday. Atltico Madrid will present an appeal before the Appeals Committee to challenge the expulsion and possible sanction of their player.
Pending the committee's resolution, the Argentinean player will miss a minimum of two games, in accordance with Article 121 which states: In the cases in which the expulsion from the field of play is due to situations in which the player would not have had the opportunity to challenge for the ball, the suspension will be for at least two games."
