INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla said government operatives are hot on the tracks of Charlie “Atong” Ang, noting the fugitive business tycoon was spotted in Calabarzon hopping houses and using different cars to evade authorities.
Ang is the primary suspect in the 2021–2022 disappearance of 34 cockfighting enthusiasts, known as the "Missing Sabungeros." Prosecutors allege that Ang, who operated the online sabong firm Lucky 8 Star Quest, orchestrated the kidnapping and presumed killing of individuals suspected of "cloning" or cheating his betting system.
“When he goes around, they’re just about three; he cannot roam around accompanied by so many. He goes around using different cars so he won’t get caught,” Remulla said in a radio interview.
Weeks ago, Remulla reported that they only missed a day in getting Ang caught following an “eyeball” intelligence that he was sighted in the Philippines, particularly in the Calabarzon region, after over 200 raids in personally or associate-linked residences and properties.
Remulla had earlier said Ang’s money is the greatest challenge in the manhunt against him since he can easily pay people and buy properties to serve as his refuge, but assured that no matter how long he hides, the arms of the law will catch up to him.
