KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah Treasurer, Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak, has accused certain leaders, who once thrived within the coalition, of attempting to remove BN from the political landscape in Sabah.
He pointed out the irony of the situation, as these leaders rose to prominence due to BN’s influence, yet are now seeking to erase the coalition’s name.
"Why are they doing this? Because BN remains the main competitor. By weakening BN, they hope their party will rise," he wrote in his latest Facebook post.
The former Sabah chief minister stressed that new political parties in the state may not necessarily achieve better results.
"Many local parties eventually lose influence because their struggles are not sustained. When leaders are absent, the party begins to fade away."
In contrast, he highlighted that BN has remained resilient in Sabah. "BN has long established its presence here. It has weathered many political waves and continues to endure," he added.
"BN, on the other hand, is not easily diminished. Its divisions, branches, and loyal supporters are spread throughout the state. This is the true strength of BN that cannot be undermined."
Salleh, who also represents Usukan in the Sabah Assembly, pointed to the 2020 state election (PRN) as evidence of BN's enduring influence, despite the political upheavals of 2018. "BN still managed to win 14 DUN seats," he noted. "The people still miss BN. BN as a party is not at fault. If there are weaknesses, they stem from a few leaders."
He further said that BN has already proven itself by offering the best service to the people.
"Joining BN does not mean we lose our Sabahan identity. We are still Sabahan, our identity cards have the letter 'H', and our struggle remains for the people of Sabah first."
Salleh emphasised the importance of engaging youth to ensure the continuation of BN's legacy.
"We must involve the youth so they understand and continue the struggle, ensuring that the DNA of BN remains alive," he urged.
He concluded by dismissing efforts to eliminate BN as the misguided dreams of a few individuals.
"BN will not disappear from the land of Sabah. Loyal supporters will remain, and BN will continue to be a part of the history and future of the politics in this state," he said. – September 6, 2025
