Auditor-General praises Muis for collecting RM132.7 million zakat in 2002

Kota Kinabalu: Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi congratulated the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) for the 11 per cent increase in zakat collection for year 2022 totalling RM132.68 million compared to RM119.5 million in 2021.

A total of RM120.51 million (90.8 per cent) of the total collection in 2022 has been distributed to zakat recipients and the largest being given the destitute amounting to RM53.55 million (44.4 per cent).

Suraya suggested that Muis improve its financial management governance in line with financial regulations in accordance with Shariah law to increase the confidence of State zakat payers.

She said this after chairing the Muis December 2022 to October 2023 year-end financial statement closing audit meeting at a hotel here on Monday.
