Kota Kinabalu: Gold miner Aumas Resources Bhd has secured an operational mining scheme licence for the Bukit Mantri gold mine in Tawau, Sabah’s only active large-scale gold operation, The Edge Malaysia reported.
The licence renewal was granted to its wholly owned subsidiary Wullersdorf Resources Sdn Bhd by the Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia, confirming compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements.
Aumas did not reveal the start and expiry dates of the new licence, though its previous approval was valid until Oct 9 this year, and is typically renewed every six months.
The Bukit Mantri mine sits on a 317.7-hectare site in Balung, with a land lease secured until Dec 31, 2048, and remains the company’s core production asset.
Aumas’ shares rose 5.26 per cent to 80 sen at noon on Tuesday, valuing the group at RM1.45 billion, after it announced the renewal amid recent controversies over licence validity and operational disruptions.
