Australia police probe historical assault allegation involving Katy Perry

AUSTRALIAN authorities in Melbourne have opened an investigation into a historical sexual assault allegation involving US pop star Katy Perry, following claims made by actor Ruby Rose regarding an incident said to have occurred in Melbourne more than a decade ago.

AFP cited today that the allegation, which first emerged through a series of widely circulated social media posts that have since been deleted, prompted Rose to formally lodge a report with police.

She later stated that she had completed the reporting process and would no longer comment publicly on the matter.

In a statement, Victoria Police confirmed that it is “investigating a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010”, without naming any individuals involved.

“As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage,” a spokesperson said.

A representative for Perry has strongly denied the allegation, describing it as baseless.

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies,” the representative said in a statement to Variety.

The case underscores the growing prominence of historical allegations resurfacing through digital platforms, often placing pressure on legal systems to address claims long after the alleged events.

It also raises questions about the balance between public discourse and due process, particularly when accusations involve high-profile figures.

Perry, known for chart-topping songs such as “Hot N Cold”, “Roar” and “I Kissed A Girl”, has recently remained in the headlines for both her music and personal life, though the current investigation marks a significant shift in public scrutiny. - April 15, 2026
