  • An Australian TV journalist, Lauren Tomasi, was hit by a rubber bullet while covering immigration raid protests in Los Angeles, and a British photographer, Nick Stern, was injured by a sponge bullet during a standoff between protesters and police.
  • Ms Tomasi, a US correspondent for Nine News, was struck while reporting outside the Metropolitan Detention Centre, prompting a bystander to yell, "You just f****** shot the reporter!"
  • Mr Stern sustained a thigh injury and underwent emergency surgery after being hit by a 14mm sponge bullet in Paramount, Los Angeles County, despite being clearly marked as press.
  • The protests were triggered by immigration raids and the detention of hundreds of people, spreading across Los Angeles.
  • Australian Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young condemned the shooting of the Australian journalist and urged Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to demand an explanation from US authorities.
