Authorities nab 20 undocumented migrants in Puchong ops

SHAH ALAM, July 9 - Joint enforcement operations between the Selangor Immigration Department and Subang Jaya City Council in Puchong on Tuesday (July 7) led to the arrest of 20 foreign nationals for various immigration offences.

The department said Ops Kutip and Ops Dandan, which began at 2pm, were carried out following intelligence gathering and continuous surveillance at public hotspots and business premises suspected of employing or harbouring foreigners in violation of immigration laws.

The operations, which involved 15 enforcement officers, were carried out at a farmers' market and business premises in the Puchong area, where 33 local and foreign individuals were inspected.

Of the total, 20 foreigners were detained for various violations under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

However, no witness summonses were issued, and no employers were penalised during the crackdown.

“At the first location, a total of 32 individuals were inspected, and 19 foreign nationals, consisting of Indonesian and Myanmar citizens, were detained for suspected offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Act, namely for not possessing valid documents to be in Malaysia.

“At the second location, an Indonesian citizen was inspected and detained for a suspected offence under Section 15(1)(c) of the Act for overstaying beyond the permitted period,” it said in a Facebook post last night.

The department added that all detainees have been taken in for documentation and further investigation.

It will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with the local authorities and other enforcement agencies to curb the presence of undocumented migrants and ensure strict compliance with immigration laws.

The department also reminded the public not to be deceived by individuals who misuse the names, ranks, or photographs of immigration officers for fraudulent activities.

It urged members of the public with information regarding immigration offences to report them to the department for appropriate action.
