SOCIAL welfare officials in Seberang Perai Tengah are urgently seeking the parents of a baby girl who was abandoned at Ward 1 of Seberang Jaya Hospital, Penang, in August 2025.

Deputy District Social Welfare Officer, Mohamad Fawwaz Mohamad Daud, confirmed that the infant was left by her biological mother, who, along with the father, is not a Malaysian citizen.

The mother has been identified as Phyo Thiri Kyaw, holding travel document MF932171, while details of the father remain unknown.

“The baby was left at Ward 1 on 18 August 2025, after being discharged by hospital staff,” Mohamad Fawwaz told Sinar Harian on Monday. “However, the parents did not return to collect her, and phone calls to them went unanswered.”

Mohamad Fawwaz added that the case has received approval for media release under Section 15(3) of the Child Act 2001 to assist in tracing the parents.

He urged anyone who may have information about the baby’s parents or relatives to contact the District Child Protector for Seberang Perai Tengah, Mohamad Fawwaz, at 04-538 2584 or via email at [fawwaz@jkm.gov.my](mailto:fawwaz@jkm.gov.my).

The appeal comes as social services continue to provide care for the infant while seeking a safe and permanent solution for her wellbeing. - February 9, 2026
