  • Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho” and leader of Mexico's Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was captured and subsequently died on Sunday.
  • The special forces operation, supported by U.S. intelligence, located Oseguera Cervantes in his home state of Jalisco after tracking a romantic partner.
  • During intense shootouts, “El Mencho” and two bodyguards were wounded and taken into custody, but died en route to Mexico City.
  • The operation and subsequent violence resulted in at least 73 deaths, including security personnel, suspected cartel members and others.
  • A key logistics and financial operator for the cartel, “El Tuli,” was also killed in a separate shootout, having orchestrated violent retaliation efforts.
