Autistic boy dies after fall from fourth-floor flat in Johor

A 12-YEAR-OLD autistic boy has died after falling from the fourth floor of a People’s Housing Project (PPR) flat in Cahaya Senibong, Masai, in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving his family devastated and raising concerns over safety in public housing units.

Atikah Nabilah Mohd Ramli, 29, the boy’s mother, said she and her family were asleep when a neighbour knocked on their door around 2am to inform them that her son, Mohd Nasri Na’imullah Abdul Aziz, had been found unconscious below their block.

“He was sleeping with his siblings in the room, but we believe he went to the back of the house and may have fallen while climbing the ledge,” she said when met at her home.

Her husband, Mohamad Said Ahamad, 38, rushed their son to Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) by ambulance, where he was admitted to the red zone before being transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) due to severe head trauma.

“At 7am on Sunday, we received a call from HSI informing us that our son's condition had become critical and we were urged to come immediately,” she said.

Mohd Nasri succumbed to his injuries at 11am on Sunday and was buried later that day at the Cahaya Masai Muslim Cemetery.

The tragedy struck just one day after the family had applied for financial assistance to install safety grilles in their home, which they had been renting since February of last year.

“My husband had earlier requested a quote for grilles, which came to around RM1,500, but we had to postpone the plan due to financial constraints,” said Atikah, a mother of four.

Local officials, including Kuala Masai village chief Zamzuri Ali and Pasir Gudang City Council member for the Cendana zone, Ishak Mohd Yusoff, have since visited the family to offer their condolences.

Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Raub Selamat confirmed that a report has been lodged in connection with the incident and investigations are underway. - October 21, 2025
