
An autopsy has confirmed that 16-year-old Irene Sofiya died from blunt force trauma to the head following the incident at a Yong Peng school, police say.
KUALA LUMPUR: An autospsy on 16-year-old Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairool Faisal, who was believed to have been murdered at a school in Yong Peng, Johor, on Saturday, found that she died from blunt trauma to the head.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the post-mortem was conducted yesterday by a pathologist from the Forensic Department of Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat.
“A 16-year-old boy was arrested on Oct 3 and has been remanded for six days until Oct 9 to assist investigations,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar said the case was being investigated for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, with the school and Education Ministry giving police their full cooperation.
He assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, transparently and professionally, with no attempt to cover up the case or protect any party.
“The case is still under investigation. The public is advised not to speculate or make comments that could interfere with the investigation or manipulate facts with the intention of causing public anxiety,” he said.
Irene Sofiya was found unconscious and covered in blood in the school hall at about 5.50 pm on Saturday.
The suspect was arrested in the Yong Peng at about 7 pm the same day.
