SINGAPORE, March 24 — An auxiliary police officer suffered a severe head injury after getting hit by a car at Tuas Checkpoint early on Friday (March 24) morning.

Preliminary investigations showed that the car’s driver drove at “high speed” before colliding with the officer, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a statement on the same day.

At the time, the officer was stationed outside the observation post at the entry of the departure car zone at Tuas Checkpoint.

ICA said that it was alerted to the accident, which involved a Singapore-registered car and a Certis Auxiliary Police Officer, at about 12.55am on Friday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force and Traffic Police were immediately activated.

Both the auxiliary officer and the driver were taken to the National University Hospital.

At that point, the officer was assessed to have sustained a severe head injury, said ICA.

“ICA and Certis are in contact with the family of the police officer and providing the necessary support and assistance,” it added.

Police investigations against the driver are ongoing. — TODAY
