- Marvel’s upcoming superhero epic Avengers: Doomsday has generated over $125m (£93.2m) in advance box office ticket sales, positioning it among the top 40 highest-grossing films of the year more than six weeks prior to its release on 18 December.
- The blockbuster boasts what is described as the largest cast of stars in cinema history, bringing together established MCU actors such as Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, stars of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and legacy X-Men actors including Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen.
- Robert Downey Jr returns to the franchise to star as the main villain Doctor Doom, taking over the focal antagonist role after the film was retooled from its original concept, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, following the firing of actor Jonathan Majors.
- The production serves as the first entry in a major two-part story arc that will conclude next year with Avengers: Secret Wars and is set to clash directly at the box office with sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Three, which is also opening on the exact same day.
- The surge in pre-sales represents a significant commercial boost for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has struggled with inconsistent reviews and box office underperformance since the release of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
