Azerbaijan sends nearly 30 tonnes of food and medical supplies to Iran as humanitarian aid, following a presidential phone call between the two nations.
BAKU: Humanitarian aid has been dispatched to Iran on the instructions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The assistance was organised by Azerbaijan’s state institutions to support the Iranian population affected by recent developments and the humanitarian situation in the country.
The aid shipment reflects Azerbaijan’s solidarity and support for the Iranian people during a difficult period.
The humanitarian cargo includes nearly 30 tonnes of food products, medicines and medical supplies.
According to the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC), the shipment contains 10 tonnes of flour, 6 tonnes of rice, 2.4 tonnes of sugar, more than 4 tonnes of drinking water, nearly 600 kilogrammes of tea, and close to 2 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies.
Trucks carrying the humanitarian aid have already been dispatched and will reach their destination shortly.
The assistance was organised following a telephone conversation on March 8 between President Aliyev and the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian.
The call was held in order to support the current needs of the neighbouring and friendly Iranian people.
