MELAKA: The Paya Rumput state constituency will see a three-cornered contest in the Melaka state election, with Pakatan Harapan (PH), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Parti Bersama Malaysia (BERSAMA) each fielding a candidate.
PH is fielding the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary Datuk Azman Abidin, while PN has nominated corporate figure Rafie Ahmad and BERSAMA is represented by Abdul Rashid Abu Bakar.
Paya Rumput returning officer Safuan Effendy Mat Ghani announced the list of eligible candidates after nominations closed at 10am today.
Azman said he would draw on his experience working alongside Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help address the needs of residents in the constituency.
He said his close ties with the Federal Government would be leveraged to facilitate matters and bring greater benefits to Paya Rumput residents.
“Paya Rumput’s semi-urban character, which includes several villages, requires a service-oriented approach tailored to the needs of the local population.”
Azman added that he intended to make full use of his position and connections with the Federal Government to ensure better services for voters in the constituency.
On the response from residents so far, he said the reception had been encouraging, but his team would continue to assess support throughout the campaign period.
The nomination process, which began at 9am, was held at Hang Jebat Stadium today.
