In a recent development that could have significant implications for the upcoming state elections, former Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali took aim at his successor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, accusing him of failing to effectively govern the state.

Azmin, who now serves as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Selangor chairman, enlisted the help of Kedah caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, a prominent figure within the coalition, to criticize Amirudin's handling of Selangor's economy.

During the PN Jelajah Selangor Baharu political ceramah in Selayang, Azmin praised Sanusi for delivering a scathing rebuke of Amirudin's inability to maintain Selangor's status as the country's top investment destination.

Azmin highlighted the decline in investments in Selangor, which dropped to the third position in the first quarter of 2023 with a total investment of only RM7 billion.

In stark contrast, the Federal Territories and Johor recorded investments of RM22 billion and RM11 billion, respectively.

Drawing attention to Sanusi's success in Kedah, Azmin pointed out that under his leadership, the state secured a total investment of RM68 billion in 2021, creating numerous quality job opportunities for the youth.

Azmin emphasized the need to address Selangor's embarrassing ranking and expressed concern over the performance of the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-led state government. He called for unity to rebuild and revitalize Selangor, urging citizens to join forces and usher in a new era on August 12.

Azmin further commended the enthusiastic turnout at the ceramah event, with attendees braving a heavy downpour to hear the words of wisdom from PN warlord Sanusi. This high level of interest signifies the growing dissatisfaction among Selangorians and their desire for effective leadership in the state.

The exchange between Azmin and Sanusi is a testament to Selangor's governance's deep-rooted challenges. It highlights the need for a competent and responsible administration that can attract investments and provide ample employment opportunities for the state's residents.

While Azmin's remarks can be seen as a political move ahead of the state elections, they nonetheless shed light on the shortcomings of the current administration under Amirudin's leadership.

As the political landscape in Selangor continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how voters will respond to these criticisms and whether they will seek change in the upcoming polls.

The future of Selangor hinges on the ability of its leaders to address the concerns raised by Azmin and to steer the state towards prosperity and progress. Only through responsible governance and effective policies can Selangor reclaim its position as a thriving economic powerhouse and secure a brighter future for its citizens.
