Steve Bruce has admitted that Newcastle want to sign Allan Saint-Maximin from Nice.
The Magpies have completed the club record purchase of Joelinton from Hoffenheim.
The Brazilian attacker will lead the line for Bruce's team in the coming season.
But that does not mean their interest in Saint-Maximin has cooled.
"I don't think it's on the verge of happening, but it's somebody we have looked at, it's somebody we have identified and we will see what happens," Bruce said of the 22-year-old to reporters.
Saint-Maximin can play on either flank or through the middle, while he netted six goals and provided three assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
