Robbie Fowler has expressed his dismay at the prospect of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk's world record fee being broken by Harry Maguire over the summer.
The Leicester City defender is being heavily rumoured with a move to Manchester United for a fee of around 80 million. However, former Liverpool legend Fowler believes that the figure is too high.
Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: "Harry Maguire is no Virgil van Dijk," Fowler wrote in the Sunday Mirror.
"But if Leicester value the England defender at 90million and there is a club out there willing to stump-up the cash, then that is his true worth in the 2019 transfer market.
"It is all about supply and demand.
"Eighteen months ago, Van Dijk cost Liverpool 75m from Southampton and observers thought the game had gone crazy.
"What an astute piece of business that looks now.
"Is Maguire as good as Van Dijk? No. But he would still improve most teams in the Premier League - and if Manchester United decide to pay, they know he WILL make them far more formidable."
