Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola admits Fernandinho could play as centre-half this season.
City have John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi as options, while Guardiola reckons Fernandinho, 34, could fill in if needed.
Asked if he was looking to replace Vincent Kompany, the former Barcelona boss said: "Maybe but we have three incredible central defenders and Fernandinho can play in that position. We will see.
"We are so happy with the squad we have. I don't know if the players here will stay or new players will come.
"But every time since I came here I am delighted with the players we have."
