Manchester United expect to keep Alexis Sanchez for the season.

Sanchez, 30, returned to the club's Carrington training complex last week but failed to participate in either of their friendlies against Kristiansund in Norway or the penalty shootout win over AC Milan in Cardiff.

The Chile international played 65 minutes in a behind closed doors friendly against Blackburn but is highly unlikely to be considered for selection in the Premier League opener against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United have been open to selling highest-earner Sanchez but the Chilean is contracted to the club until 2022 and he earns 400,000-a-week.

"Alexis has come in and trained well, he is of course four or five weeks behind the boys," Solskjaer said. "And he has not played apart from the one behind closed doors here, so I think he'll see this as an opportunity as well to make his mark.

"I do expect him to stay yeah, there's a striker there we think is going to be able to score some goals."
