Kota Kinabalu: The body of a newborn was found floating in waters near Kg Tanjung Aru Lama on Saturday.

Police suspect the baby was thrown into the sea right after birth.

Deputy City Police Chief Supt Kalsom Idiris said an individual reported the 6.30pm discovery to police upon crossing a wooden bridge.

“The complainant was greeted by a 9-year-old boy who asked if a floating object he saw was a doll or a baby.

“The complainant with the help of nearby residents contacted police,” she said.

“The public who have information related to this case are urged to contact Insp Hatikah Ahmad @ Abd Ghani at 016-8337243,” she said.

The body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem while the case is investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.
