TAWAU: Police are tracking a woman believed to have abandoned a baby girl at a bushy area behind residents’ homes in Kampung Jawa near Jalan Guru and a secondary school here on Tuesday.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Wilynton Enchana Watt said investigations are focused on identifying the baby’s biological mother and the person responsible for the incident.
He said police are also working to locate witnesses, obtain closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings around the area, and check records from hospitals and health clinics.
Wilynton said the baby was found alive at about 6am after a man discovered her alone at the isolated location, before she was taken to Hospital Tawau for medical examination and follow-up treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for exposing and abandoning a child below 12 years old.
