Baby’s body wrapped in cloth found in a box at unnumbered stall

THE body of a baby boy was found wrapped in cloth in a box at an unnumbered stall at Batu 13, Jalan Jeroco, in Lahad Datu, yesterday.

The body was found by the public at about 2pm before being reported to the police.

Lahad Datu District Police Chief Dzulbaharin Ismail said they are conducting investigations to track down the main suspect responsible for dumping the baby's body.

"The baby boy was fully developed … the body was then sent to the Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem," he said.

Dzulbaharin said the case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing birth and dumping a body, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of two years or a fine or both.

"Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Damsa Dahlan, at 089-881255 or any nearby police station to assist in the investigation," he said.

The discovery of the baby's body began going viral on social media yesterday evening. – April 16, 2025
