Kota Kinabalu: A 22-year-old baby sitter was charged with acting carelessly while taking care of a three-month-old baby girl.

Cherries Ferreline pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, to the charge against her.

She is accused of acting carelessly causing the baby to suffer injuries to the head and cheeks at 5.33pm on Dec 17, 2024 at the PPR Gayang Ria 2 in Tuaran.

The section specifically outlines that anyone who abuses, neglects, abandons, or exposes the child under her care in a way that could cause physical or emotional injury is liable under this provision.

The court set July 17 this year for mention and released Cherries on a bail of RM5,000 in two local sureties.

Cherries was also ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month and surrender her passport, if any, to the court pending the disposal of her case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Shaferrah Mad Iskim appeared for the prosecution while Cherries was not represented.
