EPISODE 0 - BACKGROUND
Location: A well-loved neighbourhood kopitiam in Kuala Lumpur, where the kopi is always strong, the toast is always crispy, and every table hosts an unofficial parliament.
For over forty years, one corner table has belonged to three old classmates who meet almost every morning. They gather to debate politics, football, technology, health, family, social media and whatever absurdity has appeared in the news that day.
Presiding over it all is the coffee shop owner, who has heard every argument, every conspiracy theory, every grand prediction and every promise that "this time, things will be different."
The stories celebrate the humour of everyday Malaysian life, where friendship survives disagreement, nobody ever truly wins an argument, and laughter is always served with the kopi.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
Ali "Mat Handsome"
A retired Army Warrant Officer and one of three former classmates from Sekolah Menengah Sri Durian (SMSD), Class of 1979.
Nobody remembers how Ali earned the nickname "Mat Handsome," but everyone agrees it has very little to do with his looks.
Ramrod straight even in retirement, he drinks kopi-O without sugar because, in his words, "Sugar is for recruits."
Ali believes almost every modern problem could be solved with discipline. Air-conditioning builds weak character. Bubble tea is dessert pretending to be a drink. TikTok is not exercise.
Ironically, he is also the group's self-appointed expert. After watching a single YouTube video or reading one Facebook post, he confidently explains subjects ranging from artificial intelligence to nutrition to geopolitics. Nearly every sentence begins with, "Actually..."
Gruff on the outside but kind-hearted underneath, he complains endlessly about today's youngsters, yet is always the first to help one in trouble.
Ah Hock
A retired businessman and Ali's former classmate.
Quick-witted, sceptical and armed with razor-sharp sarcasm, Ah Hock enjoys nothing more than puncturing Ali's latest "expert" theory. His perfectly timed one-liners usually bring the whole table to laughter.
He trusts common sense far more than internet experts.
Muniandy @ Andy
A retired technician and the third member of the trio.
Warm-hearted and endlessly patient, Muniandy is a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Most conversations begin because something baffling has happened to him or his family—a viral TikTok trend, an AI gadget, an online scam or some mysterious new slang that his grandchildren expect him to understand.
Without intending to, he becomes the catalyst for many of the gang's adventures.
Old Uncle
The owner of Kedai Kopi Tiga Cawan, now in his early seventies.
A man of few words, Old Uncle has spent decades serving kopi while listening to customers solve the nation's problems. He rarely joins the arguments, never raises his voice and has long since stopped being surprised by anything.
Having witnessed generations come and go, he knows that fashions change, governments change and technology changes—but human nature never does.
His quiet observation at the end of each conversation usually delivers the final laugh—and the last word.
Recurring Cameo
Cikgu Zero
The legendary Additional Mathematics teacher and disciplinary master at Sekolah Menengah Sri Durian.
Cikgu Zero lives oin the trio's memories and is frequently invoked whenever someone misbehaves, makes a ridiculous claim, or needs "correcting."
Feared by every student, he would stroll into class carrying a cloth bag filled with rotan canes of various sizes. Before administering punishment, he would solemnly empty them onto his desk and ask the terrified offender:
"Choose. Thin one... or thick one?"
The choice, of course, was entirely psychological. Both hurt.
His nickname, "Zero," came from his legendary habit of awarding zero marks for incomplete working in Additional Mathematics. To generations of students, scoring higher than his cane was considered an academic achievement.
Whenever the three friends reminisce about school, one of them inevitably says:
"If Cikgu Zero were here..."
...followed by a story that grows more exaggerated with every retelling. Whether every tale is true is another matter entirely.
