On October 7, Lesley Cheam Wei Yeng of Kuala Lumpur was named Miss Universe Malaysia 2022 after defeating 12 other candidates at a ritzy gala dinner event.

The 26-year-old also won the honours of Miss Schwarzkopf Most Beautiful Hair and Miss Radiant Confident.

At the Miss Universe pageant, which will take place on January 14, 2023, in New Orleans, the United States, she will now represent Malaysia internationally.

Ajunee Kaur, 20, also from Kuala Lumpur, was named first runner-up, and Tee Wan Ying, 25, from Pahang, was selected second runner-up.

However, her posting of dildo keychains on her social media raised concerns amongst the netizens. For someone to represent Malaysia at an international level, this attitude is questionable and unacceptable.

“Sex education is a big topic if you want to talk deeply about it. But if we ever think we want to represent our sash internationally, we should think rationally by not posting sexual content in our social media. This little joke such as playing dildo is unacceptable if you want to be a role model and a beauty queen. Because everything you do can easily influence our society, especially our youth,” said Malaysia Pageantry Updates, one of Malaysia's pageant pages.

Not only that, Miss Universe Malaysia organisations are also questioned about why there is no Top 3 being announced on the crowning night and there is no Live session for people to watch just like years beforehand. This ignites rumours that Lesley’s winnings are pre-planned.

Pageant lovers are now making a petition to dethrone Lesley and make way for the first runner-up, Ajunee Kaur, to be crowned as Miss Universe Malaysia 2022. As at the writing of this article, a petition to crown Ajunee Kaur has been signed by 865 people.
