Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are universally recognized as the engine of economic growth because they drive employment, foster local innovation, and ensure the equitable distribution of national wealth. I have learned from my involvement with the World Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (WUSME) based in San Marino in Europe that “SMEs absorb the bulk of the domestic workforce, providing jobs to over 60-70% of the population. They contribute a massive share of national output, typically generating between 35 to 50% of a country's Gross Domestic Product. Smaller sizes allow SMEs to quickly adapt to market shifts, test new ideas & pioneer niche technologies. Large multinational corporations rely entirely on SMEs to provide raw materials, specialized components, and local logistics. SMEs spread economic activities outside major urban centers, and offer low-barrier entry points for lower-income groups, as well as women entrepreneurs to fast achieve financial independence.” (www.wusme.org)

In this context, as the Chairman of MYAEROSATU, I am happy that our Executive Committee plays a vital role in integrating local SMEs into the global aerospace supply chain. Our association is a professional aerospace association registered in Malaysia to bridge industry, government, and academia. Its strategic positioning accelerates the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint (MAIB) 2030 managed by the National Aerospace Industry Corporation (NAICO) Malaysia. MYAEROSATU acts as a gateway by providing project management team for local Tier-2 and Tier-3 precision manufacturing or avionics SMEs. We advocate for specialized Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) pipelines to supply SMES with a ongoing steady flow of high skilled aircraft technicians and engineers.

Concurrently, MYAEROSATU frequently leads expertise alignments and networking dialogues to ensure local aerospace suppliers are factored into national defense offset programs and commercial aircraft backlogs. It serves as a unified voice to ensure local small firms can transition safely into the lucrative global aviation market, and strategizing to boost our aerospace industry collaborations.
