I remember my sports master, Francis Chang at King Edward VII School always advised students to priortise a balanced diet, focusing on protein & carbohydrates, and staying hydrated. He said,"Mindful eating and choosing healthy foods are crucial for long-term health and performance. Eat a balanced meal or snack before training to enhance performance. Consume a meal with both carbs and protein within 2 hours of your training to help with recovery. Drink plenty of water, before, during, and after training to prevent dehydration."

Last weekend, I found an interesting place that provides evidence of balancing food and physical activities. TSI (Total Societal Impact) Sports Arena Cyberjaya that offers a variety of sports facilities including a football mini stadium, a tennis court, a basketball court and two futsal courts. Within the premise of the Sports Arena, there is row of stalls at the clean Food Court selling various delicious local Malaysian dishes like nasi lemak, nasi campur, grilled sea food and drinks.

I like the offer of ‘RAHMAH’ menu consisting of Nasi Kukus or Nasi Lemak with spicy chicken licking fingers priced at RM5/- only. This affordable menu seemed to be popular among the school children who flocked this food court prior or after their games at the sports arena. This arena is located at Jalan Usahawan 2, Cyberjaya within the vicinity of commercial & government offices and some colleges.

My cardiologist, Dr. Siow Yoon Kee of Cardiothoracic & Cardiology Centre, Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang said, “Good nutrition can enhance sporting performance. A well-planned, nutritious diet should meet most of an individual's vitamin and mineral needs, and provide enough protein to promote muscle growth and repair. The link between good health and good nutrition is well established.”

Dr. Siow added that “We must drink a lot of water because it is the basis of all our body fluids - including blood and digestive fluids."
