Six Bangladeshi UN peacekeepers killed, eight injured in drone attack on Abyei base by separatist armed groups, army confirms

DHAKA: At least six Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and eight others injured in a drone attack on a United Nations base in Sudan.

The attack targeted the Kadugali Logistics Base under the UN peacekeeping mission in Abyei on Saturday afternoon.

Bangladesh’s Inter-Service Public Relations said the assault by separatist armed groups lasted from approximately 3:40 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. local time.

“The situation in the area is still unstable and clashes with terrorists are ongoing,” the Bangladesh Army stated.

Authorities are conducting rescue operations and providing medical treatment to the injured.

Bangladesh is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions globally.

Its troops have been deployed long-term in Abyei, a volatile region disputed between Sudan and South Sudan. – Reuters
