Bangladesh Remittances Hit $34.49 Billion by June 16

JAKARTA - Bangladesh received US$34.49 billion in remittances from expatriates between July 2025 and June 16, up 18.3 percent from the same period a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data cited by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha on June 17.

The inflow compared with US$29.14 billion received during the corresponding period of FY2024-25. The figures cover money sent through official banking channels in the 2025-26 fiscal year up to June 16.

Remittances remained strong in June. BSS said expatriates sent US$105 million through official banking channels on June 16 alone, taking inflows during the first 16 days of June to US$1.729 billion.

The World Bank says people who move abroad for work often send money back to families and communities. “The movement of funds from the country of work back to a home country is known as remittances,” it says.

The data points to Bangladesh’s continued reliance on overseas workers as a source of foreign exchange. Remittances are closely watched because they support household income, domestic consumption, and the country’s external balance.

Bangladesh Bank data released separately on June 17 put foreign exchange reserves at US$35.80 billion, BSS reported. Under the IMF’s BPM6 accounting standard, reserves stood at US$31.24 billion.

The latest fiscal-year figure follows a strong May. BSS reported on June 1 that Bangladesh received US$3.43 billion in workers’ remittances in May, a 15.34 percent increase from May 2025, based on Bangladesh Bank data.

BSS also said remittance inflows reached US$32.76 billion in the first 11 months of FY2025-26, from July 2025 to May 2026. The June 16 update shows the total had risen by another US$1.73 billion in the first half of June.
