Bangladeshi man charged over triple murder in Port Dickson

A Bangladeshi man was charged with three murders and attempted murder in Negeri Sembilan. The cases are scheduled for mention on Aug 13.

SEREMBAN: A Bangladeshi man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with three counts of murdering three fellow nationals in Linggi, Port Dickson on Aug 3.

However, no plea was recorded from Md Idris Ali, 43, after the charges were read out separately before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

Md Idris was charged with murdering a 44-year-old man in an alley behind a house in Taman Linggi, as well as two men aged 40 and 52 at an oil palm plantation in Sua Manggis, Linggi, between 3.30 and 4.15 pm on Aug 3.

All three charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years, and, if not sentenced to death, a maximum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The prosecution was conducted by Negeri Sembilan State Prosecution Director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah, while the accused was unrepresented.

Md Idris was also charged at the Sessions Court before Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar with attempting to murder and causing injury to another 20-year-old Bangladeshi man inside a house in Taman Linggi between 4 and 4.15 pm on the same date.

The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction.

Earlier, Engku Ahmad Rashdi said no bail was offered to the man, who had been in Malaysia for nine years, while the accused claimed that he did not understand the charges.

The case is set for a mention tomorrow for an interpreter to read out all the charges again.
