A Bangladeshi man makes around RM55,000 a month in Brickfields, KL, after marrying a Malaysian woman.
The man gains massive monthly income by running a grocery store and a restaurant, but a recent raid by authorities revealed that the 47-year-old foreigner has been managing his businesses by employing three illegal foreign workers who carry no valid permits.
In an attempt to evade the authorities, the man told them that the foreign workers were only there to help temporarily.
“They’re just helping, they’re not permanent employees. I pay them around RM45 to RM70 per day.”
Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department (JIM) Director Wan Mohammed Saupee Wan Yusoff said the Bangladeshi employer was among 17 individuals detained following inspections involving four business premises around Brickfields.
“The individuals arrested consist of 13 Bangladeshi men and two Pakistani men, including one foreign employer and two local employers who are a married couple.”
The operations were carried out together with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), reported Kosmo, and DBKL also shared the operations on its Facebook page.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(c), Section 6(1)(c), and 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations.
Three Immigration Forms 29 (Summons to Witnesses) were also issued to the employer throughout the inspection period. All individuals aged 20 to 50 who were detained were taken to the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Depot for further action.
