TAWAU: Police arrested a 24-year-old barber for allegedly raping his 19-year-old neighbour at a public housing unit in Kampung Titingan here on Tuesday.
Tawau Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the local man was arrested by the district Criminal Investigation Division at his home in the same housing area at about 10pm on Thursday.
He said police received a report from the woman alleging that she was raped by a man known to her after she allowed him into her home to help repair her smartphone.
“However, the suspect is believed to have subsequently taken the woman into a room before committing an indecent act against her,” Rosdi said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape, which carries up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
