The summer transfer window doesn’t open until June 15, but the transfer merry-go-round is already underway, with Anthony Gordon thought to be on his way to Newcastle United.

Gordon is understood to have been a target for multiple clubs this summer after scoring 17 and assisting five for the Magpies in 2025/26.

However, FC Barcelona are believed to have won the race for the England international’s signature, but could still push ahead with a move for Marcus Rashford in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona could sign Marcus Rashford alongside Anthony Gordon

After a difficult spell at Old Trafford, which included a loan move to Aston Villa, the Red Devils allowed the 28-year-old to spend the 2025/26 campaign in Spain with Barca.

Rashford enjoyed one of his best seasons for several years, scoring an impressive 14 and assisting 14 in 49 matches for the current La Liga champions.

But with Gordon generally also operating as a left-winger, some may have assumed that the Newcastle man’s impending arrival would put to bed a permanent move for the Man Utd loanee.

However, Sky Sports News are now reporting that Barcelona remain interested in signing Rashford despite their £69.3m move for his England teammate.

Barca would have to pay £26m (€30m) by June 15 to secure a deal for the Man Utd man, although a transfer is still not guaranteed to happen.

The Spanish giants are also said to be looking to secure the services of former Manchester City attacker Julian Alvarez, and Sky are unsure what the Argentine’s possible addition could mean for Rashford.

What Marcus Rashford has said about staying at FC Barcelona

Michael Carrick is now in charge of Man Utd, which could be good news for Rashford.

However, the Manchester Evening News reported earlier this month that a return to Old Trafford for the forward is unlikely.

The Red Devils would instead prefer to take cash for the player, who also spoke about his desire to remain in Spain beyond 2025/26.

Speaking earlier in May, as per the MEN, he said: “I don’t know [about his future]. I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. So we will see.”
