LABUAN: Senator Datuk Bashir Alias has been appointed new Chairman of the Labuan Corporation (LC).
Bashir, who is Labuan Umno Chairman, received the letter of appointment from Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim in a simple ceremony.
Prior to the appointment, Bashir was Chairman of the LC Advisory Committee, which is now filled by Datuk Seri Amir Hussein who had served two two-year terms as LC Chairman.
Amir’s term expired last month. He was first appointed during the Pakatan Harapan rule and his term was extended during the Perikatan Nasional rule.
In a posting, the Minister congratulated the duo (Bashir and Amir) on their appointments.
The Advisory Council comprises a chairman and six members. It is learnt from a Council member that the term of all the members had expired recently after serving a two-year term and extended a year.
Among those in the Council were Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Tuan Haji Amir Zahari (PAS), Puan Dayang Rusniah @ Raynie Datuk Din, Awang Gani Yunus, Datuk Wong Kii Yii and Datuk Dahlif Singh.
The post of Chief Executive Officer of LC, which has been held by Dr Fary Akmal Osman, has been vacant for some months following her transfer upon completion of her term.
