‘Basikal lajak’ returns? Netizens call for quick action

NETIZENS have expressed outrage and called on the police to take immediate action following a viral video which shows the resurgence of the 'basikal lajak' menace.

The video which has since gone viral on social media shows at least ten children racing dangerously downhill in the 'Superman' position.

The video is believed to have been taken near a shopping mall in Cheras at night.

The video shows the children even ignoring traffic lights and even encountering near misses with vehicles.

Several netizens also recalled a traffic incident in February 2017 when then-22-year-old Sam Ke Ting ploughed into a group of teenagers on modified bicycles.

Eight of the teenagers were killed and Sam was charged with driving recklessly and dangerously.

Sam was found guilty by the Johor Bahru High Court in April 2022 and sentenced to six years jail imprisonment and an RM6,000 fine.

However, she was acquitted by the Putrajaya Court of Appeal in April 2023. - September 24, 2024
