THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved Batangas Agrivoltaics Inc.’s (BAI) plan to build dedicated transmission facilities for its solar project in Batangas, clearing a key requirement for its connection to the grid.
In a March 19 decision, the regulator authorized BAI to develop and own point-to-point limited transmission facilities linking a 7.338-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power project in Barangay Luntal, Tuy to the distribution system of Batangas I Electric Cooperative Inc. (Batelec I).
The facilities include a 7.5-megavolt-ampere (MVA), 6.4/13.2-kilovolt take-off substation with protection and telecommunication equipment and an 89-meter 13.2-kilovolt line.
The ERC said the connection was necessary for the project to begin commercial operations, with the solar facility intended to supply electricity through the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market as part of efforts to meet rising power demand and expand renewable energy capacity.
Project documents showed the connection facilities would cost around P42.8 million, covering distribution lines, protective equipment, monitoring and control systems, and civil works.
The commission noted that the facilities would serve as dedicated connection assets to be used solely by the solar plant and may be removed without affecting other users. However, ownership could be transferred to Batelec I if the assets are later required to serve other customers, subject to payment based on fair market value.
The ERC also directed Batelec I to operate and maintain the facilities to ensure system reliability and required BAI to comply with technical standards and submit the necessary agreements and compliance reports.
An inspection conducted on Feb. 19, 2026 confirmed that construction had yet to begin, in line with rules requiring prior regulatory approval before development.
The regulator said the project was expected to benefit consumers by contributing to a more reliable and efficient electricity supply.
