SANDAKAN: The Batu Sapi parliamentary constituency, synonymous with industrial areas, also has the potential to be developed as a tourist destination, said the Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan.

He noted that this can be seen with the Batu Sapi heritage site and Pantai Pasir Putih, which are located within the constituency itself.

“In the past two years, we have witnessed positive developments, particularly at Pantai Pasir Putih, the only beach close to the town of Sandakan,” he said.

The Batu Sapi Member of Parliament also said that during this period, the construction of more rest huts and eateries in the Pantai Pasir Putih area has attracted more visitors.

However, he did not deny that cleanliness remains a crucial issue in efforts to elevate Batu Sapi as one of the tourism hubs in Sandakan.

The beach cleaning programme, which involved volunteers from the Persatuan Amal Kebajikan Sosial Sandakan (PAKSS) and the Batu Sapi constituency, successfully collected about 10 tonnes of rubbish.

Meanwhile, among the cleaning efforts that will be carried out by the Batu Sapi Parliamentary Office to enhance the Pantai Pasir Putih is the establishment of litter traps and the pruning of tree branches to ensure they do not obstruct the solar lights that have been installed around the area.
