Marriage offers a lifelong companion to share life’s ups and downs, providing support and companionship through every twist and turn. So what better time to get married than now?

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin recently shared a Facebook post expressing his thoughts on the latest statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) regarding birth rates within the Malaysian Chinese community.

He decided to raise concerns as statistics show that many romantic relationships in Malaysia, particularly within the Malaysian Chinese community, are not resulting in marriage or the birth of children.

He mentioned that in 2022, there were only around 40,000 newborns, representing less than 10% of the total live births of 423,124.

“I got curious, why are so few Chinese babies born? So I use my CNY spare time to dig a little deeper. (After all, CNY is the best time to discuss issues affecting Chinese communities).”

He also mentioned his surprise upon discovering from the latest statistics by DOSM that Malaysian Chinese not only have fewer babies but also fewer marriages.

He further clarified that DOSM only published statistics on Muslim and non-Muslim marriages. However, he expressed difficulty in finding statistics specifically related to Malaysian Chinese marriages.

Given that the Chinese population constitutes the largest non-Muslim group, he presumed that Chinese marriage statistics are likely to be closely aligned with those of the non-Muslim population.

“Therefore, in this Dragon year, I wish to urge Chinese communities to look into the problems of less marriages. While staying single is own life choices, we should encourage marriages among those who incline to marry.”

Netizens swiftly joined the comment section to express their opinions on the idea.
