BBC confirms Dolly Parton tribute plans after country icon’s death

  • The BBC has announced a special evening of tribute programming dedicated to country music superstar Dolly Parton on Saturday 19 September on BBC Two, following her death at the age of 80 on 25 August after a brief battle with cancer.
  • The broadcast begins at 9:15pm with Parton's acclaimed 2014 Glastonbury Legends slot set on the Pyramid Stage, featuring iconic performances of classic hits such as Jolene, 9 to 5, and I Will Always Love You.
  • The schedule features the documentary Sisters in Country: Dolly, Linda and Emmylou, which examines her decades-long friendship and musical partnership with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris surrounding their 1987 collaborative album Trio.
  • The special event will conclude with a retrospective compilation highlighting her most memorable BBC performances throughout a career that spanned more than 60 years, during which she wrote over 3,000 songs and sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
