- He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 but continued to work until recently.
- Stourton's career spanned over 40 years, including a decade as a presenter for BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
- His extensive broadcasting roles also included presenting BBC One's One O'Clock News, The World At One, and Sunday.
- Jonathan Munro, the interim chief executive of BBC News and Current Affairs, said it was “far too soon to lose Ed”.
