Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) has handled the inaugural call of the MSC Venice, the largest vessel to call at the Port of Gdynia in Poland.
The ship is 399 meters long with a capacity of 16,652 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
Piotr Gorzeński, CEO of the Port of Gdynia Authority, stated that the call resulted from recent infrastructure investments. These projects included deepening the port waters, reconstructing the Helskie Quay, and expanding Turning Basin No. 2 to allow safe handling of large container vessels.
BCT CEO Patrick Chan said the vessel's arrival shows the terminal's capacity to accommodate larger container ships and serve as a deep-water gateway for Poland's trade.
The terminal's ability to handle the vessel follows the installation of new quay cranes and yard equipment.
The successful port call required cooperation between the Port of Gdynia Authority, the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the Polish Navy, and local logistics partners.
The arrival of the MSC Venice establishes the Port of Gdynia's capability to handle 16,000+ TEU ships, positions the port as a direct deep-water destination in the Baltic region, and reduces its reliance on regional feeder networks.
