TAWAU: Local leaders, especially the people’s representatives and Sabah State Education Department (JPNS), are asked to be more proactive in accommodating the B40 students to be helped through the Program Pembangunan Siswa Sulung Keluarga Malaysia (Sulung).

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Ts Mustapha Sakmud, said the Madani government allocated a certain amount of budget for the programme to help the children in the B40 group who are the first in their family to successfully continue their studies at tertiary level.

“They are given privileges in terms of income financing and other benefits to help reduce the family’s burden, as well as support the government’s efforts to end poverty in the country when they finish studying.”

He said this to the media after officiating the launching ceremony of the Jom Masuk U 2024 Sabah Zone I programme at the Indoor Sports Hall, Tawau Sports Complex in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), recently.
