As the neon lights flared across the sky, cheers erupted from over 10,000 people gathered under the cool Genting air. A symphony of hard, electronic beats, classic EDM songs, and lots of picture taking guaranteed a night of high altitude energy.
The Heineken Refresh 2025 event is essentially an electronic music festival organised by Heineken. This year’s event took place in the chilly air of Genting Highlands on the 21st of June.
This year's event featured renowned local and international DJs to spin their tunes, including Beautiful Mistakes, Jovynn, AnnJo, Blink, DJ Hyo from Girls Generation, and featuring global EDM superstar Zedd as the headliner.
The festival vibe was electric, sparking excitement in each person’s bones. There was a main space where the stage was, as well as a chill space with seating areas for anyone who wanted to catch a break from all the fun.

While the rave scene in Malaysia is mostly underground, festivals like this offer a safer, cleaner, and sponsored way to experience that same rave energy. The likelihood of raids or illicit dealings happening is lower thanks to the police officers on standby, providing people with fun in a safe environment.
The rave scene in Malaysia is slowly building up due to branded events and a growing interest, especially among Gen Z. To them, it is more than loud music and flashy lights, but a place to discover new music, new friends and new experiences.
The techno and EDM genre brought by the DJs this year proved to be unforgettable to many, as seen through their posts on social media platforms. The rave culture in Malaysia is definitely not dead, just a little more polished and branded.
